Established in 2019, it is the first alumni fund since the 20th anniversary of the School. The fund accepts donations and support from all sectors of society. Through the Huan Yuan Fund, alumni may support the School’s development and alumni activities individually or by class, contributing to the long-term growth of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering.
The comprehensive ecological remediation of Erhai Lake is a long-term, arduous and systematic project requiring decades of persistent efforts. Sustainable talent cultivation and continuous social engagement are essential for the ecological improvement of the Erhai Lake Basin.
On October 24, 2019, witnessed by officials from the SJTU Education Development Foundation and the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Professor Kong Hainan donated RMB 2 million to launch the SJTU Erhai Lake Protection Talent Education Fund. Inspired by his dedication, China Water Environment Group contributed another RMB 2 million. The fund has also gained active support from Dali University, West Yunnan University of Applied Sciences, Dali Prefecture Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission and other institutions.
As an endowment fund, it offers scholarships and grants to motivate researchers and young students to engage in Erhai Lake conservation. It supports teaching, research, practical programs and public welfare initiatives for water ecological restoration. With joint efforts from more alumni and partners, the fund will continuously empower the ecological governance of Erhai Lake.
The School has partnered with well-known enterprises and alumni to establish various scholarships, rewarding over 100 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students.
Existing funds include the SJTU Erhai Lake Protection Talent Education Fund (RMB 4 million), United Water Scholarship (RMB 1 million), Letao Scholarship (RMB 750,000) and Liangren Chemical Outstanding Student Scholarship (RMB 250,000).
Individuals and organizations from all walks of life are warmly invited to set up scholarships in their own or corporate names. Such donations represent gratitude to the university as well as strong encouragement and care for younger students.
