The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program cultivates high-level, application-oriented engineering management professionals with systematic planning and decision-making capabilities in the engineering field, meeting the demand for versatile and internationalized talents amid China’s economic and social development. Shanghai Jiao Tong University began enrolling MEM students in 2010, as one of the first batch of universities in China to launch the program. The School of Environmental Science and Engineering introduced the part-time MEM program in 2019. Leveraging its strengths in environmental engineering and environmental management, the program features distinctive tracks: whole-process management of complex environmental engineering equipment, full-lifecycle construction project management, technological innovation and R&D management, and industrial/engineering strategy research with applications in environmental engineering, ecological conservation and energy management. It aims to develop senior applied professionals equipped with systematic engineering management theories, modern management methods, and specialized knowledge in environmental engineering, capable of independently undertaking engineering management work in environmental, ecological, energy and related fields.
Overview
This is a part-time program with a dual-supervisor system (academic supervisor + industry mentor). The standard study period is 2.5 years, with possible extensions subject to Graduate School regulations. Students select their supervisor team via mutual selection in the second semester after enrollment.
The curriculum is competency-oriented, integrating engineering with management, and highlighting case study and practical teaching, including overseas practice courses, to strengthen students’ comprehensive competence and global vision. Courses fall into four categories: public basic courses, professional foundation courses, cutting-edge professional courses and professional elective courses.
Classes are mainly offered on weekends in intensive sessions.
RMB 238,000 per person, subject to the final announcement by the University Finance Office.
Graduates will be awarded the Postgraduate Graduation Certificate of Master of Engineering Management by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
