Center Introduction

Analysis and Testing Center, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University(https://atc.sjtu.edu.cn/genee/)founded in 2003, the center is a professional shared testing platform integrating teaching and scientific research. Located on the north side of the Green Environment Building, it covers a total floor area of 550 square meters with total fixed assets exceeding 36 million RMB. The center houses over 50 state-of-the-art instruments for detecting inorganic, organic and heavy metal pollutants in multi-phase environmental media including ambient air, water and soil.

Based on instrument functions and testing categories, we have established four environment-oriented specialized analytical testing platforms as follows:

  • Organic Pollutant & Heavy Metal Sample Pretreatment Platform: Equipped with online purge-and-trap systems, pre-concentration direct injectors, solid phase extraction devices, as well as automatic digestion systems and microwave digesters dedicated to heavy metal analysis.
  • Trace Organic Compound & Stable Isotope Mass Spectrometry Platform: Hosts high-resolution gas chromatography-mass spectrometers, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometers, triple quadrupole mass spectrometers and stable isotope mass spectrometers.
  • Material Characterization Platform: Includes in-situ Raman spectrometers, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometers, X-ray diffractometers (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers.
  • Elemental Analysis Platform: Consists of ion chromatographs, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometers (ICP-OES), total organic carbon (TOC) analyzers and total nitrogen (TN) analyzers.

The center obtained China Metrology Accreditation (CMA) certification in January 2013 and built an indoor air pollution testing laboratory in 2016. We have six full-time technical administrators. Supported by a full-coverage online instrument reservation system, the center provides year-round 24/7 open access to all users. On an annual basis, we process 30,000–40,000 test samples, serve around 4,000 user visits, support over 80 research projects and contribute to more than 60 academic papers.
